Located in the splendid scenery of the Envers plane, surrounded by enchanted apple trees and magic vineyards, the commune is a place where you can find treasures belonging to a past which is still alive. One of the smallest communes in the Aosta Valley, once capital city of the glorious Sallasso people, now characterized by a practically still intact culture and roots and by pure and uncontaminated land, Jovençan is now one of the most beautiful and characteristic places in the middle of Europe. Located on the right bank of the river Dora Baltea, the Jovencan commune stretches on one side on the Dora plane, which is like a marvellous very close to Aosta garden, on the other on the over 2000 m. mountain area covered with coloured woods, between Pilaz and Ozein. The main activity of the commune is the growing of fruit trees, especially apple and pear trees. The growing of vine between 550 and 850 m. of altitude is also a common activity. Cattle and sheep rearing is also widespread; they are used to produce milk and cheese but also to keep the traditional "Bataille de reines" alive; not only are they used to produce milk and cheese but also to keep the traditional "Bataille de reines" alive. A popular and traditional sport called "rebatta" is also widely practised and followed by fans. The commune of Jovençan has been twined with Plonèis, in North-West France, since 2002 to emphasize its cultural ties and its ethnic-linguistic peculiarity.
